Well, aluminium die casting is a special category of die casting.
Die casting is a process for creating finished metal goods. The process of die casting is employed to make glib metal-fished products that are made, keeping in mind precise specifications such as dimensional aspects, smooth finishing, honed appearance, etc.
The process of die casting is initiated by melting the required metal and streaming its molten form into the required shapes of dies.
Now, this process, though, seems really easy but is exorbitantly difficult to execute with just the right amount of accuracy demanded. So, specific kinds of machines are required for the die casting process.
Some of these machines are as under:
- Warm chamber machines- These machines are basically used for Zn and alloys, which possess low melting points. Though with the advancement in technology, this machine can now even handle alloys that have high melting points. Thus, preventing catastrophic accidents like erosion of containers, cylinders, etc.
- Cold chamber machines- The aspect which differentiates warm chamber machines from cold chamber machines is a technical specification. Actually, the injection plunger and cylinder here are not completely down in the melted metal. Here more than the needed amount of melted metal is poured. This helps in enclosing the cavity strongly. Also, these machines’ operation is slower than the previous one because of the difference in certain aspects of working. These machines are usually employed for metals and alloys that have a considerably elevated point of melting than others.
Features of aluminium die casting:
- Metals manufactured by this process are not very prone to corrosion and are also conductive.
- Products manufactured by this process possess good robustness to weight ratio.
- Also, this process is much more effective and efficient in contrast to other processes.
- Significantly speeds up the production process.
Advantages of aluminium die casting:
- Durability- Metals manufactured with this process are generally very tough in terms of structure. In contrast to other processes, this process does increase the ability to resist anything. Be it corrosion or weather changed or rust, our tough guy, still stands straight. Moreover, products are also found to be lightweight in employing this process. While there is a notion of finished metal goods to be heavier, this process has made an exception.
- Conductivity- This too is a very important aspect of the production process. Metals that can conduct heat and electricity have great demand in the market.
Aluminium dies manufacturers use this method to manufacture wires for the conduction of electricity. Aluminium is believed to be the most used material in wires because it conducts fairly well and is affordable too. Also, aluminium is used in making household utensils as they are an excellent conductor of heat too.
Some alternatives:
- Sand Casting: It is the oldest process ever known. This process involves putting metals in a molten form directly into the sand castings.
- Investment casting: This method is also called lost wax casting. This process initiates by having a wax pattern designed in the form of the desired product.
